Diocletian's Palace
Step into more than 1,700 years of history. Built around AD 305 for the Roman Emperor Diocletian, this remarkable palace became the heart of Split’s old town. Its ancient walls, gates and courtyards bring the world of the Roman Empire into the city’s everyday life.
Begin at the Peristyle, explore the atmospheric palace cellars and visit Saint Domnius Cathedral, originally the emperor’s mausoleum. Then follow the narrow stone lanes past cafés, shops and homes. Split’s historic centre, including the palace, has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979.
